Weebly Review 2026: Pricing, Features, Shutdown News & Alternatives

Weebly was one of the first drag-and-drop website builders that ordinary people could actually use. Millions of small business owners, teachers, students, and hobbyists built their first site on it. Square bought Weebly in 2018, and since then the question has changed from “is Weebly good?” to “is Weebly still a safe place to build a site in 2026?” This review answers both.

Our directory lists Weebly from $13/mo, which matches the yearly price of its Personal plan. Below we cover what the editor is like today, what each plan includes according to Weebly’s official pricing page (checked on 4 November 2026), the 2026 shutdown in 67 countries, and when you should pick Square Online or another builder instead. Everything here comes from our Weebly listing and from Weebly’s and Square’s own pages. If we could not confirm something, we left it out.

Weebly at a glance

  • Type: hosted drag-and-drop website builder with a built-in store, owned by Square.
  • Best for: existing Weebly users in supported countries, and simple brochure sites, blogs, or small stores for people who want a very easy editor.
  • Directory listing price: from $13/mo.
  • Official pricing (4 Nov 2026): Free $0; Personal $13/mo billed yearly or $16 month-to-month; Professional $15/mo yearly or $20 monthly; Performance $32/mo yearly or $36 monthly.
  • Free plan: yes, on a free Weebly subdomain, with Square ads.
  • Big caveat: Weebly has been wound down in 67 countries in 2026, and Square encourages new sites to be built with Square Online instead.
  • Official site: weebly.com

What is Weebly in 2026?

Weebly is a hosted website builder. You pick a theme, drag elements such as text, images, galleries, maps, video, and forms onto the page, and publish. Hosting, SSL, and updates are handled for you, so there is nothing to install. Weebly’s feature pages describe the core idea well: content is added by dragging and dropping it into place, and text is edited “just like in a word processor.”

The important context is ownership. Weebly is part of Square, the payments company. Square’s help center explains that Weebly and Square worked together to launch Square Online (now also called Square Websites), “a platform built with Weebly technology.” In other words, Square already has a newer website builder, and that is where most of its effort goes.

Square has been open about this. Weebly’s official “Weebly Website Builder Support Update” says Square has “no plans to discontinue the Weebly website builder at this time,” but in the same breath it says: “we encourage new sites to be built with Square Online.” It also says that “for the best support experience and the most up-to-date features,” new sites should go to Square Online.

You can see this on Weebly’s own site. Its pricing and feature pages still work and still sell plans, but the footer on those pages reads “© 2019 Square, Inc,” and much of the feature copy reads like it has not been touched in years. That does not mean the product is broken. It means you should treat Weebly as a mature, maintained product rather than one that is gaining new features.

The 2026 shutdown in 67 countries

This is the part of any Weebly review that matters most this year. In an official help article titled “Upcoming Changes to Weebly’s Global Operations,” Weebly says it has “made the difficult decision to wind down Weebly services in 67 countries” due to “changes in regulation and to simplify our global operations.” The timeline it gives is:

  • 29 June 2026: customers in those countries could no longer publish new pages.
  • 27 September 2026: existing Weebly sites in those countries were unpublished.
  • 26 December 2026: last date for account access, so owners can move their site, domains, and data. After this, there is no login access.

The list includes, among others, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, Bangladesh, Nepal, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ukraine, and Russia. The United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and most of Western Europe are not on the list. Network Solutions, which also offers Weebly-based sites, published a matching notice and adds that Weebly platforms will no longer be available in those countries after 2 January 2027.

If you are in one of the affected countries: do not start a new site on Weebly. If you already have one, Weebly’s notice tells you to download your data from Account Settings > My Data > Download My Data (or archive a single site from Edit Site > Settings > Archive) and to transfer any domain bought through Weebly before 26 December 2026. Weebly also reminds you that a domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration, and that changing your registrant contact details triggers a 60-day lock, so do not edit those details before the transfer.

If you are in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, or another country not on the list: Weebly keeps working, you can still sign up, and Square says it has no plans to discontinue the builder. Still, the regional wind-down shows Square is willing to retire Weebly where it no longer makes sense for the business. If you are starting fresh, weigh that before you commit years of content to it.

Key features

The drag-and-drop editor

Weebly’s editor is still one of the easiest to learn. You build pages from elements and full-width sections. Each section can have its own color or image background and hold several elements, which makes it simple to stack a hero, a text block, a gallery, and a contact form without touching layout settings. Weebly also lists video backgrounds, custom headers with slideshows or video, custom fonts, parallax and reveal effects, an image editor, site search, and custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

The trade-off is the same as with other theme-based builders. You work inside a theme’s structure, not on a free-form canvas. If you want Wix-style “put anything anywhere” or Webflow-style CSS control, Weebly is not the tool. If you want a tidy site without thinking about design, it is pleasant to use.

Themes and mobile

Weebly says all its themes are responsive, so one site adapts to phones, tablets, and desktops, and you can preview how pages look on a mobile device in the editor. The theme library is functional but dated compared with the newest template sets from Squarespace or Wix. Expect clean, simple layouts rather than trendy ones.

Blogging

Blogging is one of Weebly’s quieter strengths. Its blog page lists custom URLs, title tags, and meta descriptions for posts, custom header and footer code on blog pages, categories, tags, sidebar customization, comment moderation, Disqus or Facebook comments, RSS, and scheduled posts. For a small business blog or a personal journal, that covers what most people need.

Ecommerce

Every Weebly plan, including Free, includes a shopping cart, unlimited items, item options, item badges, inventory management, in-store pickup, automatic tax calculation, coupons, and Square gift cards, according to the pricing page. Paid plans add more:

  • Personal and up: digital goods, a shipping calculator, and shipping labels.
  • Performance only: PayPal payments, item reviews, abandoned cart emails, and advanced ecommerce insights.

Weebly’s ecommerce page also mentions filtered product search and automatic email delivery of digital downloads via a secure one-time link. Because Weebly is part of Square, inventory can sync with Square in real time, which is useful if you already use Square for in-person sales.

One honest note: Square’s own FAQ says Square Online offers “more robust ecommerce features” and a “modern ecommerce experience for buyers.” If selling is the main reason you want a site, Square is telling you which of its two builders it would rather you use.

SEO

Weebly says every site gets a sitemap, SEO-friendly HTML, meta descriptions, and responsive design, with page-level descriptions and image alt tags available. SEO tools are listed on all plans, including Free. That is enough to get a small site indexed and ranking for local or niche searches. It is not a power-user SEO setup; there is no deep control over structured data or performance tuning like you would get with WordPress.

Forms, stats, and integrations

All plans include lead capture forms, an Instagram feed, and the ability to add third-party embed code (for analytics or chat widgets, for example). Advanced site stats, which show popular pages, how people find your site, and referring sites, start on Professional. Pop-up notifications start on Personal.

The Weebly App Center adds third-party integrations for traffic, sales, and social. Keep in mind that Square’s FAQ notes the Square Online editor is not compatible with the Weebly App Center, so apps you rely on may not carry over if you later move to Square Online.

Hosting, SSL, and domains

Hosting is included on every plan, and so is a free SSL certificate. You can publish on a free Weebly subdomain, buy a domain through Weebly, or connect one you already own (custom domains start on Personal). Annual Professional and Performance plans include credit for one year of a standard-priced domain, which must be registered within 45 days of buying the plan. Weebly also offers a Google Workspace integration for email at your domain.

Weebly pricing in 2026

We checked Weebly’s official pricing page on 4 November 2026. Prices are in US dollars as shown on that page; what you see may differ by region and taxes.

  • Free ($0): Weebly subdomain, SSL, embed code, SEO tools, forms, basic store features, chat and email support. Shows Square ads.
  • Personal ($13/mo billed yearly, or $16 month-to-month): adds a custom domain, digital goods, shipping calculator and labels, pop-ups, and phone support. Square ads stay on.
  • Professional ($15/mo billed yearly, or $20 month-to-month): adds unlimited storage, advanced site stats, a free domain for the first year on annual billing, password protection, and removes Square ads.
  • Performance ($32/mo billed yearly, or $36 month-to-month): adds PayPal payments, item reviews, abandoned cart emails, advanced ecommerce insights, and priority support.

Our directory’s $13/mo starting price is the Personal plan on yearly billing.

Which plan makes sense?

The gap between Personal and Professional is only $2/mo on yearly billing, and Professional is the first plan that removes Square ads and adds password protection, advanced stats, and a first-year domain credit. For almost any business site, Professional is the better value. Personal mostly makes sense if you already own a domain and do not mind the ads.

Performance is for stores that need PayPal, product reviews, or abandoned cart emails. If you are at that point, compare it carefully with Square Online, Wix, and Shopify-style platforms before paying for a year.

Weebly free plan: what you really get

The free plan is more generous than many: you get the full editor, SSL, SEO tools, forms, and even a basic store with unlimited items and coupons. The limits are the ones you would expect. Your site lives on a Weebly subdomain, it shows Square ads, there is no custom domain, and features such as digital goods, unlimited storage, and advanced stats are locked. It is fine for testing, a class project, or a hobby page. For a business, the ads and the subdomain are hard to live with.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very easy drag-and-drop editor with almost no learning curve.
  • Low entry price: $13/mo yearly for a custom domain, $15/mo yearly to remove ads.
  • Solid blogging tools with per-post SEO fields, scheduling, and comment control.
  • Basic store features on every plan, with Square inventory sync.
  • A real free plan that includes SSL, SEO tools, forms, and basic store features.

Cons

  • Wound down in 67 countries in 2026, including Pakistan, the UAE, and Singapore.
  • Square itself recommends Square Online for new sites and “the most up-to-date features.”
  • Themes and marketing pages look dated; do not expect major new features.
  • Personal plan still shows Square ads.
  • PayPal, item reviews, and abandoned cart emails are locked to the top plan.
  • Weebly App Center apps do not work in Square Online, so a later move may mean rebuilding.

Who should use Weebly?

Good fit: you already run a Weebly site in a supported country, it works, and you do not need new features. Staying put is reasonable, as long as you keep a recent export of your content. Weebly also still suits someone in the US, UK, Canada, or Australia who wants a very simple brochure site or blog and values a familiar, easy editor over modern design.

Poor fit: anyone in one of the 67 affected countries, anyone starting a long-term business site who wants a builder with an active roadmap, and stores that want modern checkout and marketing tools. If you are a Square seller, Square Online is the obvious path, because Square recommends it and it syncs with the rest of your Square tools.

Weebly vs alternatives

Square Online: Square’s newer builder, built with Weebly technology. Square says it offers a faster editor, better mobile design, more SEO tools, Facebook and Instagram integration, and regular updates. It is the natural move for Weebly users who sell, and Square says you can use it for informational sites too.

Wix: far more design freedom, a huge app market, and an active roadmap. More to learn, but a much safer long-term bet. Read our Wix review.

Squarespace: the best pick if you want polished, modern templates and are happy to work within them. See our Squarespace review.

Hostinger Website Builder: a low-cost option with AI tools for people who mainly care about price. See our Hostinger Website Builder review.

Jimdo and Webnode: both are simple, budget-friendly builders in the same spirit as Weebly. Compare them in our Jimdo review and Webnode review.

Strikingly: a good choice for one-page and small sites with a quick AI starting point. See our Strikingly review.

If you plan a listings or directory site rather than a brochure site, Weebly is not built for that; our guide to the best directory website builders covers tools made for it. For a wider shortlist, see the best no-code website builders for small business.

How to move off Weebly safely

Whether you are in an affected country or just planning ahead, the steps are the same:

  1. Download your data from Account Settings > My Data > Download My Data, and archive each site from Edit Site > Settings > Archive.
  2. Save your text, images, logo, and product list somewhere you control, such as cloud storage.
  3. Make a list of your pages and their URLs so you can recreate them and set up redirects on the new platform.
  4. If your domain was bought through Weebly, go to Websites > Domains, choose Manage > Manage Domain, turn off Registrar Lock, and copy the EPP code for your new registrar. Do not change contact details before the transfer.
  5. If you use Google Workspace through Weebly, contact Weebly support about moving it directly to Google, as Weebly’s notice advises.
  6. Rebuild on your new builder, connect the domain, and check that your key pages load before you close the Weebly account.

The archive gives you your content, but you should expect to rebuild the design on the new platform. No builder can import a Weebly theme as-is.

Verdict: is Weebly worth it in 2026?

Weebly is still an easy, affordable builder, and the Professional plan at $15/mo billed yearly is fair value for a small ad-free site in a supported country. But the bigger picture is hard to ignore. Square encourages new sites to use Square Online, the Weebly site looks frozen in time, and in 2026 Weebly was switched off in 67 countries.

Our take: if you already have a Weebly site in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, or another supported market, you can keep it, but keep a current backup and a plan B. If you are starting from scratch, pick a builder with an active future instead, such as Square Online if you sell with Square, or Wix, Squarespace, or Hostinger for most other sites. If you are in one of the 67 affected countries, move now and finish before 26 December 2026. Compare Weebly with hundreds of other tools on WebsiteBuilders.Directory.

FAQ

Is Weebly shutting down?

Not everywhere. Weebly wound down its service in 67 countries in 2026: sites there were unpublished on 27 September 2026, and account access ends on 26 December 2026. In other countries, including the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, Square says it has no plans to discontinue the Weebly builder at this time.

Is Weebly available in Pakistan?

No. Pakistan is on Weebly’s list of 67 countries. Sites were unpublished on 27 September 2026, and owners have until 26 December 2026 to download their data and transfer domains.

How much does Weebly cost?

Per Weebly’s pricing page on 4 November 2026: Free is $0, Personal is $13/mo billed yearly ($16 monthly), Professional is $15/mo yearly ($20 monthly), and Performance is $32/mo yearly ($36 monthly). Our directory lists Weebly from $13/mo.

Is Weebly free?

Yes, there is a free plan on a Weebly subdomain with SSL, SEO tools, forms, and basic store features. It shows Square ads and does not allow a custom domain.

What is the difference between Weebly and Square Online?

Both are owned by Square. Square Online is the newer builder, built with Weebly technology, and Square says it gets regular feature updates. Square encourages new sites to be built on Square Online. Weebly App Center apps do not work in the Square Online editor.

Can I remove Weebly or Square ads?

Yes. Removing Square ads starts on the Professional plan ($15/mo billed yearly or $20 monthly).

Is Weebly good for SEO?

It covers the basics on every plan: sitemaps, meta descriptions, page-level descriptions, alt tags, and responsive themes, plus SEO fields for blog posts. For large or highly competitive sites, a platform with deeper control, such as WordPress or Webflow, is a better fit.
